Vaporesso launched the Luxe XR Max into their lineup of pod mod kits in early 2023, and here at ELQD ECIGS, we’ve been loving it ever since.
It wouldn’t be fair if we didn’t review one of our favourite kits since its release…

First Look
Among the range of colours in the Luxe XR Max, I went for the soft, semi-matte sage green which has a delicate sheen finish to it.
On the interface of the device, there is a clear polycarbonate window showing off the circuit board which is enhanced by gradient blue-green LED back-lighting – this feature keeps in line the cool futuristic look of the Luxe range!
‘Vaporesso’ is subtly branded on the side of the device, and engraved on the rear-side of the Luxe XR Max, Vaporesso’s Avenger-esque logo returns. The device name ‘Luxe XR Max’ is printed on the base for easy identification, where the charging port is also located.
Design & Build Quality
Constructed from zinc-alloy and weighing a solid 124g, the Luxe XR Max proves a sturdy but comfortable feel in the hand and reinforces the idea of just how durable this device is.
Built from durable PCTG plastic, the Luxe XR Pods combine innovative design with practical features. The 5ml pod integrates COREX technology with a unique Morph-Mesh coil structure and fluffier cotton for faster E-liquid delivery, even heating, and enhanced flavour accuracy – boosting coil lifespan by 50%! The SSS leak-resistant technology reduces leaking for longer, while the magnetic connections ensure a snug and secure fit into the device. The pods are fully compatible with the GTX coil series, an added bonus for current Vaporesso users that know and love them.
Appearing only when the power button has been fired, the 0.54″ OLED screen displays the current wattage, puff count and battery status. Pressing the power button a number of times allows you to adjust wattage and more…I’ll discuss this further in the next section.
Upgrading from the original Luxe XR, the XR Max now offers an airflow control slide on the side of the device as well as the option of switching the pod around to match up with the small or larger hole in the pod. This feature is much appreciated from myself as it offers even more user preference and control than before!
The Luxe XR Mas doesn’t feature auto-draw functionality and relies solely on a fire button for activation. While this offers more control and consistent power delivery, it may be a slight drawback for users who prefer the convenience and simplicity of inhale-activated vaping.
How to Use the Luxe XR Max
- Remove the device from its packaging
- Lift the pod out of the device and insert your chosen coil
- Pry open the filling bung on the base of the pod
- Insert the nozzle of your E-liquid, gently squeezing until pod is almost full, leaving a small gap for air move
- Close the filling bung and ensure it’s firmly in place
- Allow the pod to sit for at least 15 minutes before using – this is to ensure the coil has primed
- Press the power button 5 times quickly to power the Luxe XR Max on(and off)
- Press and hold the power button when inhaling to activate
Additional Settings
To adjust the wattage output, press the button 3 times quickly and then tap the touch screen arrows to increase/decrease. Press the power button once to confirm.
To enter the menu, press the power button 4 times quickly. Use the touch screen arrows to navigate the different functions, pressing the fire button once to confirm.
Functions:
- LED: Turn on/off
- SMART: Turn on/off. When Smart Mode is on, the system will auto-adjust the wattage to the best suited power within the recommended range
- PUFF: Resets the puff counter
- EXIT: Back to main display
Performance
Now it’s time to put the Luxe XR Max to the test and see how it performs where it really counts!
Pairing the Luxe XR DTL Pod with the 0.2Ω GTX Mesh Coil and Fruit Salad from Pick It Mix It’s shortfill range, the combination delivers a vivid, high-powered burst of candy nostalgia. I was hit with the juicy mix of raspberry and pineapple with every inhale, and this was further backed by citrus notes that recreate the feel of a classic sweet shop treat. Running at 55W, the low-resistance coil is perfect for direct-to-lung vaping, producing thick clouds and intense flavour delivery, enhancing those tangy highs while keeping the overall vape smooth and satisfying. With the DTL pod and 0.2Ω coil, I estimated around 13 hours of use and 162 puffs before it was time for a recharge!
In between testing the pods, I set my Luxe XR Max on the charger and came back 50 minutes later to a full battery…that’s not too shabby a charging time for such a big battery!
Since release, Vaporesso have made a slight adjustment in removing the RDL Pod from the packaging. However, to cover all bases I will be including it, and to keep things consistent, I’m also using Pick It Mix It’s Fruit Salad.
With the Luxe XR RDL Pod and the 0.4Ω GTX Mesh Coil, Pick It Mix It’s Fruit Salad takes on a richer, more balanced tone. The restricted-direct-lung produces a denser draw, allowing the raspberry and pineapple combo to shine while adding warmth and depth to the fruity candy blend. Running at 30W, the mesh coil delivers a smooth ramp-up and consistent performance, making each puff feel rounded and full-flavoured. You’ll still get that nostalgic sweet-shop vibe, but with a touch more refinement – perfect for all-day vaping without overwhelming the senses. With the RDL pod and 0.4Ω coil, I estimated around 19 hours of use and 287 puffs before the battery was out of charge!
Switching over to the Luxe X 0.8Ω Pod (sold separately) to test out how it performs for MTL users, I paired this with Lemon Mint in 10mg from Elux’s Legend Nic Salt range. Running at 16W, the 0.8Ω pod delivered a refreshingly smooth vape with a satisfying throat hit, and was generous on cloud production. The pod’s mesh coil enhances flavour clarity, letting the bright citrus tang of lemon cut through, while the cool mint exhale adds a clean, icy finish. With the 0.8Ω pod, I estimated around 38 hours over 3 days of use and 475 puffs before the battery needed recharging!
Conclusion
